get ready to rumble

joe & i are both aviator buffs, have been since we were little kids...joe's dad, a hobby pilot, used to take joe & one of his brothers, years ago, to the big airshow in oshkosh, wi...once upon time when i was little, i dreamed of becoming a pilot! i was fascinated by airplanes & aviation...& still am! ditto for joe, too... it was unusually chilly (low-mid 60s) at this year's airfest>>>compared to last year's, when it was a scorching 100 degrees! i'm not complaining, mind you...we'd rather be cool & alert, than be sweating profusely & getting heat stroke! i was wishing, though, that i had brought a blanket...my joe is such a gentleman, he took off his jacket & insisted i keep warm in it! just love this man to bits! as you can imagine, it was wicked LOUD>>>the earth & our bodies literally quaked as the amazing flying machines rumbled & tumbled about the air! there was this majorily souped up truck, called the SHOCKWAVE, that roared passed us in excess of 300+ mph! it was like a dragon, who breathed smoke & spewed FIRE! military jets & skydivers dazzled us with their amazing speed & stealth!...as much as i love flying & planes, i have neither the courage nor urge to skydive>>>joe feels the same way too! those trained military divers, though, make it look so very easy>>>scared of them!!!!...then there was this AWESOME woman, patty wagstaff, an aviator legend, who stunned us all with her precise & HARDCORE aeroacrobatic show (she is pictured in the red & white plane)>>>oh how i want to be like her!!!! even joe says she is the BEST acrobatic pilot he has ever seen in his lifetime (& he's seen many)! she flew here to our little town a couple days ago & after the show, we saw her take off to fly back home to st. augustine, florida>>>now, how's that for traveling in style?!!!!! WICKED AWESOME is all i have to say to that!!!! now how's this for total guts?! three generations of "wingwalkers" as they are called went up as you can see on the wings & top of this biplane! it was a grandfather (73 years old!), father & son!! one word (okay, TWO words) say(s) it all: INCREDIBLY UNBELIEVABLE! the fest ended with an homage to 50 years of airforce history, two fighter jets, one old & one new, flying side by side. (amazingly & dangerously close!)... a day well spent!
